Senator Puerto Plata Spa Resort spreads along Maimón Bay on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, beside the Amber Cove cruise terminal and about 9 km from downtown Puerto Plata; the gardens hold more than 300 plant varieties and the beach is over 1 km long. The complex dates from 1996 and was renovated when it became a Senator property in 2018; the resort offers a free transfer to and from Puerto Plata Airport.
The roughly 570 rooms and suites (Tripadvisor lists 571) all have a balcony or terrace and range from junior suites to swim-up suites, ocean-view suites, an Imperial suite and a Presidential suite with private pool. All-inclusive dining covers the Larimar buffet, the Embers steakhouse, La Grappa Italian, Zao teppanyaki, Pop'Up Pizza, the Ocean Beach Club, Il Gelatto ice cream, the Mokka coffee shop, a Cigar & Rum bar, the Legends sports bar and a swim-up pool bar; drinks are served at the table. There are several experience pools with jacuzzi areas, the Senzia Spa, an ocean-front gym, a tennis court, beach volleyball and water sports, daily entertainment with separate kids' and teens' programmes, and the Tropical Avenue shopping street with live shows.
Emotions by Hodelpa Puerto Plata is one of the larger properties in the gated Playa Dorada resort complex, with the longest stretch of golden-sand beach there and the Robert Trent Jones-designed Playa Dorada Golf Course alongside. Puerto Plata's Malecón is about 1.8 km away and the airport roughly a 15-minute drive. It is run by the Dominican Hodelpa group.
The roughly 450 rooms range from Superior and Family Deluxe rooms (up to five guests) to swim-out rooms with direct pool access and an adults-only section with its own pool and jacuzzi; all have air conditioning, flat-screen TV, safe and free Wi-Fi. The all-inclusive plan covers three meals a day plus snacks and drinks: Ergo's buffet, à-la-carte Mexican, Italian, Dominican-fusion, grill and gourmet restaurants, a café and four bars including a swim-up pool bar. There are four outdoor pools and a kids' pool, Evolution Spa with sauna and steam room, a 24-hour gym, tennis court, climbing wall, archery, kids' and teens' clubs, a theatre with nightly shows and a nightclub. Parking is free; check-in is from 3 pm and check-out by noon.
