Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument of Discoveries)
Built in 1960, the Monument to the Discoveries stands proudly along the waterfront and has become one of Portugal’s most iconic landmarks. Shaped like a giant stone ship sailing toward the sea, the monument commemorates Portugal’s great maritime explorers. Intricate sculptures depict Prince Henry the Navigator, Vasco da Gama, and over 80 important figures from Portugal’s Age of Discovery, including navigators, missionaries, generals, and scientists. A large cross on the reverse side symbolizes the country’s religious heritage.
Jerónimos Monastery
Constructed in 1502, Jerónimos Monastery is a magnificent example of Manueline architecture and a symbol of Portugal’s prosperity during its maritime empire era. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, the monastery is considered one of Portugal’s greatest architectural masterpieces.
Belém Tower
designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, Belém Tower is one of Lisbon’s most recognizable landmarks. Once serving as a customs checkpoint and fortress guarding the harbor, it marked both the departure point for explorers and the welcoming sight for sailors returning home. Local sailors once said, “When you see Belém Tower, you know you are home.”

Pena Palace
Begin your journey in the fairy-tale hills of Sintra with a visit to the magnificent Pena Palace and the enchanting Pena Park and Gardens. Perched high above the town, Pena Palace is one of Portugal’s most iconic landmarks and a masterpiece of 19th-century Romantic architecture. Its vibrant red and yellow towers, decorative terraces, Moorish domes, and Neo-Gothic details create a magical atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Europe. Originally built on the ruins of an ancient monastery, the palace was transformed into a royal summer residence by King Ferdinand II and today stands as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Cape Da Roca
Continue westward to the dramatic cliffs of Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe. Here, towering sea cliffs plunge into the crashing Atlantic Ocean, creating one of Portugal’s most spectacular coastal landscapes. The famous stone monument marks this geographical point with the poetic inscription once written by Portuguese poet Luís de Camões: “Where the land ends and the sea begins.” The scenery is especially breathtaking on windy days, when waves crash violently against the rugged coastline and seabirds glide above the cliffs.

We then confirm availability, usually within 24 hours, and update your booking status — if we cannot confirm your reservation, your deposit is refunded in full. Mercure Lisboa Almada is in the Pragal district of Almada, across the 25 de Abril bridge from Lisbon, in a green setting overlooking the Tagus: the Cristo Rei statue is 700 m away, Ramalha station 1 km, Pragal train/metro station 1.9 km, the Cacilhas ferry to Lisbon 3 km and the A2 motorway 2 km, with the Costa da Caparica beaches a short drive away. The 106 renovated rooms are air-conditioned, non-smoking and have free Wi-Fi.
The Boshq restaurant serves contemporary, healthy food under an alcohol-free concept, the lounge bar makes fresh juices and mocktails, and breakfast is a buffet. The hotel also offers 3 meeting rooms, room service, a shuttle service, wheelchair access and free sheltered parking – useful for coach groups. Check-in from 15:00, check-out by 12:00.
NH Sintra Centro stands on Praça da República in the centre of Sintra's historic town, facing the medieval National Palace and within walking distance of the Quinta da Regaleira; Pena Palace, the Moorish Castle and Monserrate are a short drive or bus ride uphill. From the lobby balcony you can see the Moorish Castle and, on clear days, the sea. Private parking is available, which matters in a town with very little street parking.
The hotel was the Tivoli Sintra until it joined NH; its 77 rooms over eight floors were renovated in 2023 and include connecting rooms, accessible rooms and large suites, each with a Nespresso machine and free Wi-Fi, and many with balconies or terraces. Restaurant Miranda serves breakfast and Portuguese specialities, the bar does drinks and snacks, and there are rooms for meetings and events. Check-in is from 3 pm and check-out by 12 noon.
Hotel Estrela de Fátima stands on Rua Cónego Formigão with the Sanctuary of Fátima just across the street, which the hotel fairly calls the best location in town. It opened in the 1950s, was completely renovated and reopened in 2019, and belongs to the local Fátima Hotels Group, which runs seven hotels near the Sanctuary.
The 84 rooms come in three decorative styles: warm-toned 'poppy' rooms and blue-toned 'tree' rooms (single, double, twin, triple and family), plus 14 deluxe rooms and 4 junior suites with a living area, several with views of the Sanctuary. All are soundproofed with wooden floors, cable TV, individually controlled air conditioning, safe, minibar and free Wi-Fi; bathrooms have a hair dryer and bathrobe, and accessible rooms, cots and extra beds are available. The restaurant serves a buffet breakfast every morning and a mostly buffet lunch and dinner of Portuguese and fusion dishes; there is a bar with a fireplace, an outdoor terrace with a small children's play area, a saltwater pool open from May to October, an internet corner and equipped meeting rooms.
Hotel Central Parque stands on Avenida Visconde de Barreiros in the heart of Maia, a satellite town of Porto on the metro network: Fórum Maia station is 200 m away with direct links to Francisco Sá Carneiro airport, downtown Porto and the coast, and Maia Zoo is a 10-minute walk.
