Canton Tower, a Pearl River night cruise and two days eating your way through the birthplace of Cantonese cooking — any day you like
A private four-day stay in Guangzhou — the old Canton — with a day trip to Shunde, the small city an hour south that Cantonese chefs call the home of their cooking. You travel with your own driver-guide and a private car, so the tour runs on any date you choose.
Day two is the city: a photo stop at Canton Tower, the Guangdong Museum from Huacheng Square, a tram ride through the new Pazhou district, Beijing Road pedestrian street, and a night cruise on the Pearl River past the lit-up skyline. Day three is Shunde — Shawan ancient town, Qinghui Garden (one of the four great classical gardens of Lingnan), the Shunde Archway and OCT Happy Coast. Lunches and dinners are left free on purpose: your guide points you to the yum cha, roast goose, wonton noodles, double-skin milk and stir-fried milk the region is known for.
Three nights at the Hilton Garden Inn Guangzhou Airport (4-star) or a hotel of the same standard, with breakfast; airport transfers both ways are included.

Your driver-guide meets you at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport and takes you to the hotel. The rest of the day is free to rest.
Modern Guangzhou first: a photo stop at Canton Tower, the 600-metre "slim waist" on the river, then Huacheng Square, the city's central plaza, ringed by the opera house, library and the Guangdong Museum. A tram ride takes you through Pazhou New City, the exhibition and tech district.
In the afternoon, Beijing Road, the old commercial heart of Canton, where sections of the Song- and Ming-dynasty road surface are preserved under glass beneath the shops. After dark you board a Pearl River night cruise (ticket included) for the lit-up skyline.
Lunch and dinner are free: today is the day for yum cha, lychee-wood roast goose, wonton noodles and rice-noodle rolls, and your guide will point you to the right places.
A private car takes you south. Shawan ancient town in Panyu is an 800-year-old settlement of Ming and Qing houses, ancestral halls and folk art. Then Qinghui Garden in Shunde, one of the four great classical gardens of Lingnan, with its pavilions, ponds and carved brickwork.
In the afternoon a photo stop at the Shunde Archway, the city's landmark, and time to walk OCT Happy Coast, a waterside leisure district.
Lunch and dinner are free, and this is the culinary high point of the trip: Shunde is regarded as the birthplace of Cantonese fine cooking. Try the raw fish slices, double-skin milk, ginger milk curd, roast goose and stir-fried milk.
Breakfast at the hotel and some free time, then a private transfer to Guangzhou Baiyun Airport for your onward flight.
