Six days from Guiyang to Chongqing: Huangguoshu Waterfall, Qingyan Ancient Town, Ciqikou, Hongyadong, the Liziba light rail and a hotpot dinner.
This six-day trip links Guizhou’s karst country with the mountain city of Chongqing. From Guiyang you spend a day at Huangguoshu Waterfall, Potang Waterfall and Tianxingqiao, followed by a Bouyi hand-grasped rice dinner, then visit Qingyan Ancient Town, Huaxi Wetland Park and Jiaxiu Tower before taking the high-speed train to Chongqing.
In Chongqing you explore Ciqikou Ancient Town, Jiefangbei and the stilt houses of Hongyadong, ride the Liziba light rail through a building, see giant pandas at Chongqing Zoo and walk Shancheng Lane before a hotpot dinner at Pipa Garden. Nights are at Four Points by Sheraton hotels in Guiyang and Chongqing, or similar.
Private tour. Just your own party with a private guide and vehicle, starting on any day you choose in 2027 (minimum two travellers). Travelling on a budget? The group version of this tour costs less and leaves on fixed dates.
How the price works: CAD $1,688 per person sharing a twin or double room (land only — flights to Guiyang and home from Chongqing are not included). Gratuities for your guide and driver, CAD $120 per person (CAD $20 a day), are added at checkout; the estimate on this page already includes them. The single supplement is CAD $375.
You are met on arrival in Guiyang and transferred to your hotel to check in.
Today you visit the Huangguoshu Scenic Area: Huangguoshu Waterfall (with the scenic shuttle bus and one-way escalator), Potang Waterfall and the Tianxingqiao Scenic Area. You walk through karst gorges and see the waterfalls and limestone landforms up close.
Dinner is a Bouyi hand-grasped rice meal, a traditional dish of the local Bouyi people: five-colour glutinous rice dyed with natural plant colours, served with farm-style stir-fries and side dishes on bamboo winnowing trays. You eat it the Bouyi way, by hand.
You explore Qingyan Ancient Town and Huaxi Wetland Park (battery car included at both), and visit Jiaxiu Tower, Guiyang’s historic landmark.
In the afternoon you are transferred to the station for the high-speed train to Chongqing. On arrival you are driven to your hotel to check in and rest (vehicle and driver only; no guide on this transfer).
After breakfast you visit Ciqikou Ancient Town, a maze of old lanes full of local snacks and traditional handicrafts. Next comes Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street, Chongqing’s central commercial district of high-rises, shopping malls and long-established local brands.
You then visit Hongyadong, a complex of stilt houses built into the cliffside, whose tiered buildings are lit up at night and have become a symbol of Chongqing.
After breakfast you ride two stops on the Liziba light rail, where the line passes straight through a residential building, a striking example of this multi-level mountain city’s transport. You then visit Chongqing Zoo to see giant pandas and other rare animals.
Afterwards you stroll along tree-lined Zhongshan 4th Road, with its preserved historic buildings, and explore Shancheng Lane, an old hillside footpath with views over the city. Dinner is at Pipa Garden Hotpot, listed by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest hotpot restaurant, with tables terraced up the hillside and night views of the city.
You are transferred to the airport at the appropriate time for your flight (vehicle and driver only; no guide on this transfer).
