Five days in Guizhou: Huangguoshu Waterfall, a Miao long-table feast in Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, Qingyan Ancient Town and Guiyang.
This five-day loop from Guiyang combines Guizhou’s karst scenery with its ethnic-minority culture. You spend a full day at the Huangguoshu Scenic Area — Huangguoshu Waterfall, Potang Waterfall and Tianxingqiao — with a Bouyi hand-grasped rice lunch, then travel east to Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village for the Miao Museum and a long-table feast with toasting songs and folk dance.
On the way back to Guiyang you walk the Ming and Qing streets of Qingyan Ancient Town, visit Jiaxiu Tower and browse the evening Qingyan Market. Travel is by road, with drives of one to three and a half hours, and nights in Guiyang (Four Points by Sheraton), Anshun and Kaili, or similar.
Private tour. Just your own party with a private guide and vehicle, starting on any day you choose in 2027 (minimum two travellers). Travelling on a budget? The group version of this tour costs less and leaves on fixed dates.
How the price works: CAD $1,425–1,650 depending on the season per person sharing a twin or double room (land only — flights to Guiyang and home from Guiyang are not included). Gratuities for your guide and driver, CAD $100 per person (CAD $20 a day), are added at checkout; the estimate on this page already includes them. The single supplement is CAD $275–338 by season.
You arrive in Guiyang and are met at the airport and transferred to your hotel to check in and rest. The evening is free to enjoy the night views of this mountain city.
About two hours’ drive brings you to the Huangguoshu Scenic Area, where you spend the whole day at Huangguoshu Waterfall, Potang Waterfall and the Tianxingqiao Scenic Spot (scenic shuttle bus and one-way escalator included). Huangguoshu is one of the largest waterfalls in Asia, and you see its tiered cascades, karst rock formations and clear pools.
Lunch is a Bouyi hand-grasped rice meal, a traditional dish of the local Bouyi people: five-colour glutinous rice dyed with natural plant colours, served with farm-style stir-fries and side dishes on bamboo winnowing trays and eaten the Bouyi way. Afterwards you drive about one hour to Anshun.
About three and a half hours’ drive takes you to Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village (battery car included), often described as the largest Miao village in the world, with wooden stilt houses stacked up the hillsides. You visit the Miao Museum to learn about Miao history, folk customs and intangible cultural heritage.
Lunch is a Miao long-table feast, the Miao people’s most formal gesture of hospitality, with a traditional toasting ceremony, Miao songs and folk dance. You then drive about one hour to Kaili.
You drive about three hours back towards Guiyang and visit Qingyan Ancient Town (battery car included), a town of Ming and Qing dynasty architecture with old stone streets and Tunpu culture. You also stop at Jiaxiu Tower, Guiyang’s historic landmark.
In the evening you tour Qingyan Market outside the ancient town, a traditional local market with many stalls selling farm produce and local food — a glimpse of everyday life in Guiyang.
After breakfast you are transferred to the airport in time for your departure flight.
