Tokyo to Osaka along the classic route, then a flight to Hokkaido for Noboribetsu’s hot springs, Lake Toya, Otaru and Sapporo — two onsen nights, 4 to 5-star hotels, gratuities included
Nine days that join Japan’s classic route with its northern island. From Tokyo you travel via a hot-spring night by Mt Fuji to Nagoya, Kyoto, Nara and Osaka, then fly from Osaka to Sapporo for Hokkaido: a second onsen night in Noboribetsu, Hell Valley, Lake Toya, the cliffs of Cape Chikyu, the canal town of Otaru and two nights in Sapporo.
You stay in 4 to 5-star hotels in Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka and Sapporo, with two nights at hot-spring hotels. The Osaka–Sapporo flight (with a 20 kg checked bag) and an arrival transfer from Narita or Haneda are included, and an English-speaking guide travels with you.
How the price works: CAD $3,799 per person sharing a twin or double room, land only — flights to Tokyo and home from Sapporo are not included. On 19 and 26 October (high season) the price is CAD $4,149. Gratuities for your guides and drivers are already included. The single supplement is CAD $1,220 (CAD $1,360 in high season).
A receptionist meets arrivals at Narita and Haneda between 8 am and 10 pm and arranges your transfer to the hotel; transfers are grouped, so allow for a short wait. Hotel check-in is from 3 pm with your passport — if you arrive early you can leave your luggage and explore on your own.
Visit Senso-ji, Tokyo’s oldest temple, and the stalls of Nakamise Dori; see Tokyo Skytree from a distance and Nijubashi Bridge by the Imperial Palace East Garden, then walk through Shinjuku’s Kabukicho. In the afternoon, travel to the Mt Fuji area for dinner and a night at a hot-spring hotel. Seasonal stops: Yoyogi Park and Rikugien Garden in autumn (18 October – 15 November).
